Marie Kelly — Visual Artist & Irish Landscape Painter
Visual Artist · Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan
Marie Kelly is a visual artist living and working in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. She began her career as a Certified Public Accountant and practised within Ireland — an academic background that continues to shape her methodical approach to composition and the drawing of her subject matter.
Marie grew up just outside Carrickmacross at Maghernacloy Castle — a quiet corner of County Monaghan whose fields, light and stillness continue to find their way into her paintings.
Her paintings, predominantly in oil, draw from the Irish landscape and coast. Marie paints en plein air with the Drumlin Plein Air Painters and exhibits her work nationally and internationally.

In the open air
From the French — "in the open air"
Much of Marie's work begins outdoors — easel pitched among the wildflowers, light changing by the hour, weather rarely co‑operating. Painting from life sharpens the eye and keeps the work honest.
These small plein air studies become the source material for larger studio paintings, carrying the warmth and atmosphere of the day they were made.
